Adrienne M. Bennett, President and Chief Executive Officer, Products Direct, LLC., Has the proud distinction of being The First female to complete the Detroit Plumbers Local 98 five year apprenticeship, the First female plumbing inspector in the State of Michigan, the First licensed female plumbing and drain layer contractor in the State of Michigan, and the First African-American female licensed Master Plumber in the United States of America.
Adrienne has over 25 years of community involvement and experience in numerous leadership roles including plumber, master plumber, court plumbing inspector, estimator, plumbing contractor, project manager and corporate management.
In her current position, she deals with the oversight of operations, new technologies, diversity, staff management, finances, customer service, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, contract compliance and community relations.
Giving back to the community is very important and is one reason why performs public speaking about her success at K-12 career days, Vista Maria, American Society of Plumbing Engineers, American Association of University Woman Annual Conferences, American Red Cross, Department of Labor apprenticeship conference, Plumbing & Heating Cooling Contractors Association recruitment seminars, Detroit Free Press news paper articles, Detroit Crain's Business, Detroit, Women Health Style Magazine, Construction Association of Michigan, Local and National Talk Shows.
In January, 2000 Adrienne was appointed Chief Project Manager and Space Analyst. She documented over 3 million sq ft. of Henry Ford Hospital's Detroit campus and 1 Ford Place Headquarters by using ATG (CAD) facility management software for space planning and allocation. Adrienne was responsible for coordinating and hiring architectural firms to up-date the CAD system, departmental moves which included, identifying space, furniture and, communications/data relocation.
In January, 1997 was appointed as Project Manager for Henry Ford II-West Annex Pavilion. Her crowning glory, this 285,000 sq. ft., multi-million dollar project involved budget management, strategic and manpower planning, as hospital liaison worked one on one with medical staff for equipment selection, design layout which was handled in a professional and effective manner. At that time Henry Ford Hospital was the largest free-standing hospital in the State of Michigan. After this appointment: The American Society of Sanitary Engineering appointed her to the Hospital Plumbing Research Committee, where she served in good standing for 2 years. For her community involvement and giving back she has also received Testimonial Resolutions from Detroit City Council, Wayne County Commission and Mayor, Coleman A. Young.
In September of 1993, Mrs. Bennett was hired as Construction Manager and Master Plumber for Henry Ford Hospital. She managed in-house construction projects, renovations and additions. Responsibilities included estimating project cost, plan review, approved documents implementation, monitored sub-contractors, internal skill trades, contract compliances, contract close-out, punch list, final inspection and occupancy. Certified as a medical gas and vacuum system installer and inspector she successfully completed the upgrading and maintenance of the Henry Ford Health System's medical gases and equipment. The idea of exposing young further tradesman and women to the skills trades early in life was address by working with A. Phillip Randolph Technological School. A program was in place to have these students work with Henry Ford Hospital in-house skill trades: plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, boilers, electrical, electronics and blue print reading.
In 1990, Universal Plumbing & Piping Systems opened as the first MBE/WBE plumbing contracting company in the State of Michigan.
In Sept, 1986 was hired as Michigan's first Plumbing Inspected. Insured all projects complied with the Building Official Plumbing Code (BOAC), plan reviewer, court plumbing inspector, contractor violations of BOCA code.
